Guelph Jazz Festival. Now in its 19th year, the festival has established a rock-solid international reputation for presenting a consistently vibrant, challenging and culturally diverse program of the very best in innovative jazz and improvised music. exploring music's vast potential as a vast community-building force, the festival has steadfastly built large and enthusiastic audiences for innovative artistic expression through its one-of-a-kind programming, its unique educational and outreach initiative, its commissioning of new work and its creative community partnerships.
The music captured on the first three tracks of this recording comes from an amazing morning concert during our 2011 edition and features two old friends, Veryan Weston & Trevor Watts, in a powerful and and intimate improvisational conversation. It's a great pleasure to share this wondrous music from our festival with you.

Robinwood Concert House. The concert house is tucked in Toledo, Ohio's historical neighbourhood referred to as the Old West End. Since 2008 I have been organising the 'other music' in Toledo. With the exception of a few artists I have never hosted a show of this calibre, not to mention that, on the confirmation of the show, I didn't own a piano - this show was my jumping off point. With the help of many friends and patrons of the RCH, through a fundraiser I was able to furnish my home with a small baby grand.
The two days in June that Trevor and Veryan were in Toledo were more than memorable, from the late night conversations on the porch (in which I was in paradise hearing about the early days in London and how these two English gentlemen cut their teeth) to the stellar dialogues with their instruments on this recording. On the night of the show my living room was comfortably filled with eager listeners, their minds ready for a glimpse of how lives can intersect and a whole new musical story can rise out of these two improvisational masters, leaving everyone, including myself, with an understanding of community and life's perseverances.
